Todd Barrow - 'Broken Guitar Man'

BWH Music Group’s Keepin' It Country, Vol. One, by Various Artists, contains an eclectic mix of 17 songs by today's best independent Country artists and songwriters. With great storytelling and heart-felt performances at the core of each song, the album spans traditional and contemporary Country music. Off the compilation, Todd Barrow's song "Broken Guitar Man" offers deeply honest and moving music.

Commencing with lovely finger-picking guitar, Todd creates a gentle and mellow introduction to his moving song, “Broken Guitar Man.” Todd enters singing, “There are devils in the daylight demons in the night. He's an old rock n' roller looking back on his crazy life . He tried to burn his candle at both ends and he tried to be her lover, all she wanted was a friend.”

From the start, Todd draws you into his gripping storytelling with a vocal performance that is both tender and forgiving as he sings about a music man who has some regrest from the past and doesn’t know what the future holds. Reaching out his empty hand at the twilight of his life, he asks only for mercy. Reminiscent of Dan Fogelberg, Todd’s vocal tone is crystal clear with a warm tenor tone that invites you to listen and feel each word. Musically, the memorable melodies fit the lyrics like a glove. Violin adds to the song’s texture with tasteful fills adding the perfect touch. Now the fiddlers walking to him holdin’ out his empty hand you think he'd show some mercy on the broken guitar man.” In addition to the violin, there’s a lead guitar solo that adds contrast to the soft acoustic guitar; the leads are played with refinement and artistic grace. “Broken Guitar Man” was written by Lonnie Ratliff of Oakie Acres Music, Nashville, Tennesee. Todd’s delivery, the arrangement, and the production (Greg White of SG Studios) are stellar. Singing about unrequited love, the search for inner peace, and the ebb and flow of the mysteries of life, Todd offers a performance that is reflective and redemptive.

“Broken Guitar Man” feels whole and thoughtful and you will be hooked on every genuine note and lyric. Todd Barrow's performance flows with intimacy and authenticity, like the page from a personal journal.
