Therése Neaimé - Exclusive Interview

With a lifetime spent immersed in entertainment which covers opening for Simply Red, touring in the middle east and headlining the South Africa and Copenhagen pride to mention a few milestones, Therése is in demand. With the release of her new single, "Dance Love," the artist has hit her stride. The vibrant spark and inspired sound of “Dance Love” is a bold reflection of her genuine love of the craft, every bit as much as it reveals her remarkable professionalism, stunning vocals, and the true X-factor of an artist destined to live on the top spots of charts and playlists worldwide.
What got you into music?
Growing up, music and dancing was always present in my home. Can't count the numerous dance contests I participated in. I was also very early inspired by anyone who believed enough in themselves to go for their dreams and so I decided to follow that path too. I truly believe life is about becoming the best version of ourselves. Following a path of excellence can be difficult, but not doing so should scare me even more. ”Ask and you might receive! Dare and you will gain!”.
What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else?) Tell us why.
It's all of the above. I truly believe that being an artist is about being part of every process. If the songs comes from your heart, the audience will also feel that while you're performing on stage. I also run my own record label, Future Records. Being the CEO gives me the control of everything that's going on, from taking the decisions about new releases, PR, the shows, and images to the creative planning when it comes to, for example, filming the next music video. To have the overall perspective is what keeps me going, and I love every part of it equally. To have said that, I also want to highlight that all of the above would not be close to possible without the amazingly talented people around me which I call "my team." The licensing label, sponsors, co-writers, the video producers, etc., etc... Forever grateful!
Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you?
It has always been important to me that my music comes from my heart. Therefore, a new song of mine, very often starts with my idea on what the subject should be. Usually a subject taken straight from my own life. Then my musicians and I meet up and start jamming in the studio. From there we build the melody and develop the lyrics together. Sometimes I write most of the lyrics myself. I truly love the whole collaboration idea. To bring out the best in each and everyone in the creating process.
As a songwriter or musician, are there any obstacles you have had to overcome or obstacles that you are facing right now in your career?
Of course there's been many obstacles along the way, being in the music biz for more than 20 years. And most certainly, it's been a very rough time for most artists with a virus spreading across the globe, cancelling most of the gigs. But…I would still say that I'm at a very good place at the moment. Although it's been different times, we have continued to create, plan ahead, and release new material. I believe the key is to focus on what lies within your own control and not the opposite.
Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why?
Anyone who believes in themselves enough to go for their dreams. Any artist that is not afraid to break new ground. To mention someone, it would be for example: Sting, Adele, Ed Sheeran.

To date, what do you think your best song is? Can you describe the song for us?
Isn't it so that we always fall in love with the latest one we just released? :) For me at least that's very often the case. I truly believe "Dance Love" is that perfect mix between a genuine love of the craft, an interesting combination of that Latin/Pop/Soul sound, designed to bring bodies straight to the dancefloor. Listening to this song makes me happy. Isn´t that what music is about? To create a certain emotion. Hopefully with this one, we succeeded.
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?
Since I love the creative process, there's always a song in the making. So yes, new material on the way. We already planned ahead for the fall and the next releases. Hopefully they will all be strong followers to the current single, ”Dance Love” which we just released.
