The Happy Curmudgeons Feat. Amy Dixon-Lavery– ‘2nd Chances’

Written by Matt Wong & Staff

“2nd Chances” is a song by Americana rock band The Happy Curmudgeons. The song’s moving intro begins with acoustic guitar, and is joined by bass, drums, and cello. Vocalist Amy Dixon-Lavery enters on the first verse with a warm and inviting vocal performance that is perfect for this song. Following two verses, the song’s arrangement begins to bloom with the cello playing beautiful pads under the vocals.

The song’s third verse provides listeners with a fresh sonic experience with the introduction of well executed background vocals as well as an organ. A tasteful guitar solo follows the second chorus, and fun guitar licks are interspersed through the rest of the song, providing further melodic interest to the arrangement.

The lyrics in “2nd chances” are about receiving a second chance on life. With lyrics such as “I can promise you one thing, I’m not going back again,” and “Lord, I’ve got to change my direction,” the band sings about leaving one’s mistakes in the past and moving on with a person who cares about others more than themselves. The lyrics also emphasize the joy of living in the moment and not taking things for granted.

"Looking forward to tomorrow, where time heals old wounds I'm shooting for the stars now, in search of beautiful things If I could fly to Saturn, I would float between the rings."

“2nd Chances” by The Happy Curmudgeons is a song that showcases stellar musicianship and top-notch songwriting. Each member of the band is clearly highly skilled at their instrument and together, their playing contributes to an outstanding arrangement. The song itself has a highly memorable melody, interesting chord changes, and is enhanced by a fantastic performance and production. Happy Curmudgeons are an Americana band to watch.
