Review by Daniel Hoyt & Staff
“One More Night of Christmas” is an original holiday song by Suzanne's Band that has an 80's rock ballad vibe to it that really makes the song stand-out from other Christmas tunes of today. The phaser guitar adds that 80's sensibility and the tensions are reminiscent of groups like the Smiths while the piano pulls in a Bruce Hornsby “The Way it Is” vibe.
The song has a verse-pre-chorus-chorus arrangement that shifts later on, keeping the ear fully engaged. The ending has this very Carpenters “Merry Christmas Darling” feel to it which adds a great, warm touch. There is something familiar yet completely fresh about this holiday tune. The melodies are catchy and the vibe is cool.
The song was produced by Danny Jones and it features Jeff Hogan on guitar, Dave Smith on bass, Beth El Gomez on cello, Thanushka Bandera on piano, Jason Woods on drums, and Hailey-Ann Booth on percussion. The musicianship is excellent. The sound is alive and crisp while Suzanne's voice is warm and inviting.
The message of this song is sweetly shown through the lyrics. It’s about having just “One More Night of Christmas” or having that Christmas feeling all year long with someone you love. Suzanne's vocal performance brings the message home with just the right amount of expression. She sounds natural and down-to-earth.
"One more night of Christmas / One more night with you / I need one more night of Christmas, baby one night will do / It just takes one more night of Christmas to bring it all back home to you / I need one more night of Christmas baby, one night will do one more Christmas with you."
Suzanne’s Band has written a very memorable Christmas song. The 80's vibe is really popular with music on the charts today, but in Christmas music it is seldom heard and listeners will welcome this sound on their holiday playlist. "One More Night of Christmas" has the ability to be very popular during the holidays or anytime of the year as a great pop-rock song.
"One More Night of Christmas" will air on National Indie Radio (WNIR) during the month of December.
About Suzanne's Band
Suzanne's Band is an indie folk/rock combo led by Texas based singer/songwriter Mia Suzanne Walker. Highlights of Walker’s career include being Captain of the Air Force choir at Sheppard Air Force Base, and backing up Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith.
With many years of music experience, Walker’s shows can be tailored to fit the audience being performed for. Shows are usually a blend of covers from the 60's, 70's, 80's to current in addition to originals. The anti-genre approach to her songwriting creates an entirely different basis to build on, along with introspective ideals, and the importance of self-worth laced into the lyrics.
