Moses Mo and the Real Cool Band - 'Rockin' Christmas Eve'
Review by Daniel Hoyt & Staff
“Rockin' Christmas Eve” by Moses Mo and the Real Cool Band features a cool vibe between funk and rap rock. It has that Run DMC with Aerosmith “Walk This Way” feel to it. The chorus is a variation of the classic “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” with sort of a dystopian Muppetsfeel to it. The vocalist has the Will Smith “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” thing going on, mixed with the “Guns n Roses”backing. All of these influences come together for a really fun holiday tune.
"Rockin' Christmas Eve" features rap lyrics by William Marion George or “ZeroBasement” and music arranged, performed, recorded and produced by Gary “Moses Mo” Moore. The lyrics of this piece are meant to be a bit more lighthearted and fun, rather than serious. The chorus is “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”; however, the verses tell a story of Santa almost “skipping over” the main character Zero’s “crib.” It's both clever and contagious.
As the story continues, Santa is later seen in the house by Zero where he almost calls the cops on him for stealing his “oreos”. The lyrics of this song really evoke images of a wacky group of kids in a cartoon show. It has that easy feeling that the holidays are all about.
Moses Mo and the Real Cool Band have a unique vibe to them that can really brighten up the spirits of anyone’s holiday season. They go for a fun sound that makes people happy, and that is a side of music that everyone can enjoy. If you are looking for a holiday song to play at a party or just to get into the wild side of Christmas, add "Rockin' Christmas Eve" to your playlist.
