Mick J. Clark - 'Anuther Sunny Holiday'

Updated: Jun 14

Review by Vai Thomas & Staff

Summer is around the corner in most places around the world. One can visualize the familiar aura of youthfulness in the air and the prospect of exciting adventures. And summer music, oh, summer music! When one listens to summer music, one hopes to have broken free from the shackles of work or studies before the summer begins. That is the essence of good holiday music. Grammy-nominated artist Mick J Clark conjures up a groovy summer number that is both youthful and nostalgic in the form of 'Another Sunny Holiday'.

One endearing trait of 'Anuther Sunny Holiday' is its ability to cater to individuals of all statures, something that is becoming disappointingly less common in contemporary holiday music. Almost every listener or family can find something personal to take away from this song. Written in the key of A major and belonging to the realm of pop-rock, 'Anuther Sunny Holiday' is an ode to, and indeed a well-charted poetic plan on how to make the best use of, the summer holidays.

With an upbeat groove and the 1-5 bass progression kicking things off right from the beginning, UK-based artist Clark shows us he means business. And as always, the lyrics of a holiday song need to be nostalgic yet exciting, and Clark doesn't let us down here. Sample these words: "Worked so hard, need to get away, A sunshine break, maybe a two-week stay, You'll be lord of the manor, take your drinks on a tray, on your Sunny Holiday." Lyrics like these, delivered with just the right amount of unvarnished joy and simplicity, work wonders and leave a lasting impression on the listener's memory. Clark's vocals themselves are delightfully down-to-earth and silky rustic. The vocal "Oh's" in the first ten seconds transport the listener into a world of joyous fun and serene lightheartedness.

There is something delightful about the song that is highly reminiscent of the peppy numbers used in Martin Scorsese's film soundtracks. The song's structure, chord progressions, and instrumental performances are arranged and performed appropriately. The lack of a lyrical bridge works in favor of the song, as does the consistent drum rhythm in tandem with the bass, which acts as the backbone of the entire song. The electric guitar solo adds its own peppy interpretation of the verse. The rising highs of the chorus provide the necessary flourish to make a good song a splendid and memorable one.

At a duration of four minutes and twelve seconds, 'Another Sunny Holiday' is the type of song that propels you to get moving and activate plans for a delightful summer holiday. The song doesn't try to appear overtly cool, as many holiday songs from today's pop artists tend to do. Instead, it urges you to have fun and create wonderful memories at an upbeat pace, regardless of who you are or where you're from. And in my opinion, that is what makes this song the epitome of cool.
