Jaclyn Kenyon - 'Next to You'

Review by Ionas Finser & Staff

Jaclyn Kenyon is a singer/songwriter from Burlington Ontario Canada who relocated to Nashville, TN. She has been performing professionally since the age of 12 when she first received National media attention when chosen as the youngest performer ever in Canada’s all female artist showcase “Honey Jam,” competing against artists twice her age. Sponsored by Warner Chappell Music, the contest is best known for having launched the career of Nelly Furtado. Warner, EMI and Sony ATV have all offered co-writing opportunities. Jaclyn has wrote with numerous top Billboard writers including members of Bon Jovi, The Eagles , Aerosmith, Crosby Stills and Nash as well well establish co-writers on her new record including Clay Mills (Darius Rucker, Trisha Yearwood, Little BigTown) Steve Diamond, (Eric Clapton, Faith Hill, Reba McEntire) Liz Rodrigues, Erik Alcock (Eminem,Celine Dion Pink) Robbie Nevil (Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Disney) Mike Krompass (Natasha Bedingfield, Archuletta, Smashmouth) Rich Redmond (Jason Aldean) Jaclyn has trained for performances with Live Music producer Tom Jackson (Taylor Swift) in Nashville).

I don’t know if it’s the pristine production or the masterfully catchy songwriting, or both, but I can’t stop listening to this Country Rock sensation of a song. “Next to You” opens with a catchy guitar progression whose clarity immediately establishes the caliber of the song. As Kenyon’s smooth, sugary voice comes in over dynamic drums, it’s impossible not to start snapping one’s fingers. Jaclyn Kenyon’s fans are in for a ride with this one, including an ear-worm chorus and expressive guitar solo.

Lyrically, “Next to You” takes us on a journey through a deeply universal and brilliantly vivid account of an interaction with an unsavory bar-goer. Riddled with catchy lyrical motifs, the artist crafts a structure of phrases that pull you in and highlight every melodic movement.

"You shouldn’t look at me like you do When your girlfriends standing right next to you Whatcha gonna do now that you gave yourself away."

Move over, Miley Cyrus, and get out of the way Taylor Swift. It’s time for Jaclyn Kenyon to unload her glistening voice and well-defined style onto the world’s stage. With vibrant melodies, crisp production, and a relatable message, “Next to You” is sure to be a large step in this direction. It’s time to watch what this powerful songstress will do now that she’s given herself away.
