I Ya Toyah - 'Puppet (Adoration Destroyed Remix)'
Written by Ionas Finser & Staff

I Ya Toyah is a one woman army that blends chaos and balance with the vibe of industrial electronica. Her music is a fusion of smooth, cutting edge vocals, surreal guitars, hypnotizing beats and multiple electronic synth elements arising into dark arrangements that, combined with storytelling lyrics, respond to the paranoia of everyday reality. Her single, "Puppet," is a great way to get to know this phenomenal artist.
A bone-chilling, ambient intro greets your ears, pulling you into the world of I Ya Toyah’s “Puppet”. The artist’s distant, piercing voice makes itself prominent in the mix, as if to seduce the ears of her listeners. Thundering percussion enters, breaking through the calm ambiance to deliver our first hints of the sinister, confident nature of the song.
I Ya Toyah’s vigorous vocals guide us through worlds of sound and texture, including an outstanding chorus complete with howling vocal harmony and epic over-driven synths.
The message of the artist’s lyrics is more in depth than one might think. While the general vibe arouses thoughts of an empowered, dominant woman commanding her ‘puppet’, the lyrics also speak to the way people often fall into the laps of politicians and public figures who charm their audiences with corrupt, rehearsed ideas.
“I play god You're in my pocket I pull the strings And you are my puppet”
“Puppet” is a song whose message can be interpreted in a plethora of ways, depending on the listener. The music that I Ya Toyah and Adoration Destroyed bring to the table is truly abstract, powerful, and ingenious, paving the way for the artists’ listeners to think outside the box when it comes to their own views and beliefs. In a music industry full of cookie-cutter song structures and messages, we can look to I Ya Toyah for a fresh breath of something new and exciting.
