GRENON - Music Interview with Kacie Grenon

What do you do when you are in the middle of "nowhere" in the rural state of New Hampshire and you have too many pent-up feelings that need to be expressed? If you are a group of creative, talented and passionate teens - you start a punk inspired, pop-rock band. GRENON is that band. GRENON is comprised of teen members Kacie Grenon (lead vocals/guitar), Nick Turgeon (lead guitar, vocals), Zachary Stone (drums), and Spencer Gregory (bass, keys, vocals). You can check them out everywhere @Grenontheband

What got you into music? I have honestly been passionate about music my entire life. I started performing onstage when I was 4 years old and I designed my tour bus in my Diary of a Wimpy Kid doodle book thing when I was 9. I started to write my own music when I was 12. This has always been what I've wanted to do.

What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else?) Tell us why.

All of it, honestly. Songwriting keeps me mentally sane (for the most part :)). Performing is just fun and it's really just a big hang out between the people who create the music and the people who resonate with the music. Recording is where we get to be freely creative to experiment with whatever we want. And since we're an indie band, we get do a lot of our own business related stuff (like editing promo videos and being present on social media) which is personally a lot of fun for me.

Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you?

As huge perfectionists, being in the studio is a bit of pressure, especially if we're paying by the hour, because we have to get EVERYTHING perfect. But for the most part, we love getting to be experimental and it's chaotically beautiful. Plus it's always super exciting to hear the final product cause that usually means new musiccccc!

As a songwriter or musician, are there any obstacles you have had to overcome or obstacles that you are facing right now in your career?

Well right now, the biggest obstacle we're currently facing is the fact that we're releasing a bunch of debut songs and content during a global pandemic. We've had to completely change our release and promo plans, so we're kinda just going with the flow right now and seeing what happens.

Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why?

As a businesswoman and overall creative person, I personally admire Taylor Swift because she's so good at adapting to the music industry that is infinitely changing. She has also managed to be wildly successful in multiple genres. Aside from her fanbase being HUGE, it's also wild and incredibly loyal. At this point of her career, she can basically do whatever she wants and her fans will still love her. Everyone in the band has different influences, so they would all answer much differently.

To date, what do you think your best song is? Can you describe the song for us?

Everyone in the band has a different favorite song, but in my opinion, I think our best song is our upcoming single called "Imaginary Friends." It's lyrically one the most honest songs I have written so far. The song is basically an anthem for the lonely cause it’s a song about being left out and having no friends. It's also one of those songs where the lyrics are sad and lonely but the music makes you want to dance.

Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?

Our single “Imaginary Friends” comes out on May 1! It's the first single off our debut EP "mental hell[th]" and you can pre-save it now :)
