Fareed – ‘I Am’
Review by Matt Wong & Staff
“I Am” begins with a brief hook played on acoustic guitar. The guitar melody, fueled by impactful articulation and expressiveness, is full of emotion and immediately captures the listener’s attention.
Fareed’s hypnotic vocals then enter on the first chorus, supported by keys, and acoustic guitar. The first verse is followed by a contrasting bridge, where lush string parts are introduced to the arrangement, in addition to background vocals. After forty seconds of a serene sonic palette, the groove and grit enter on the second verse with the drums, bass, and dirty electric guitars.
Following two verses of pure energy is a face melting guitar solo played with intensity and great tone. Coming out of the solo is a contrasting verse, driven by clean electric guitar playing arpeggios. Along with another bridge, the song is perfectly set up for another build in dynamics to an in your face double verse, with the song ending on one more fantastic guitar solo.
The lyrics in “I Am” are about the love between a father and a son. Listeners will be able to feel this connection with lyrics such as “When I look into your eyes, I see me” and “you’ll forever be mine cuz I am, I am, I am.” A standout lyric in this song is “No matter if you’re near or far, you’re my star.”
“I Am” by Fareed is an exeptionally well-written and well-produced song. The song’s melody is memorable, and the lyrics have deep meaning and emotion. These elements are then perfectly framed and highlighted with a spectacular arrangement featuring a great vocal performance and production.
