Deanna DeMola - 'Worst In Me'
Music Review by Victoria Scott & Staff
Deanna DeMola’s “Worst In Me” is an emotional pop song bursting with amazing beats and melody. Commencing with an ethereal wistful male voice in the intro over a soft ambient melody, the song gradually progresses as the trap beat, and the ambient melody increase.
The mix is well planned and Deanna's pristine vocal performance is flawless. Producer Jimmy Greco has a way to make a world surreal, and Deanna has written an exceptionally profound message of self-regulation within a material world that expects so much, so quickly.
The chorus bursting with emotion calls into attention, “We’re growing up way too fast. Even though it doesn’t last, you bring out the worst in me. We’re growing up way too fast, too late to remove the mask. You bring out the worst in me.” During the third verse, “I’m on display as a product of society, a show and tell where you tear apart my body. Slap me with an expiration date, at 25 it’ll be too late.” A resonating theme is that people can be triggered by the pressures of perceived human perfection. Deanna DeMola explores this complex human experience with an intensely honest lens.
The music video for “Worst in Me” released December 12th, 2019 depicts the emotional turmoil of growing up in a superficial world.
Deanna takes an exciting approach with “Worst In Me” with an introspective look at oneself, human expectations, and the pressures of perfection. Her performance is highly provocative and very well-executed. Deanna dives deep to write a song about the unruly expectations of society that exists with social media and self-image and in doing so, she breaks down the unrealistic expectations and gives us all permission to be human. Deanna DeMola is an artist to watch in 2020 with a message for future generations and flawless musicianship.
