Excited percussion accompanies gentle, textured chords to start off this brilliantly colorful song by Deanna DeMola. When DeMola’s vocals enter, one is almost alarmed by the level of smoothness and texture the artist’s voice brings to the table.
“Letting You Go” is one of those songs that operates on a very positive, upbeat musical plane, yet somehow carries a great degree of melancholic depth and nuance. While major cadences are frequent and the percussion drives the song along, a combination of dark lyrics and ambient motifs create a lot more emotion to digest. Deanna DeMola’s sparkling chorus, home to a world of swirling synths and catchy melodies, is like a breath of fresh air, acting as a microcosm for the songs overall message.
The artist uses the challenges of her past as a strength, calling upon her experiences in life to create a crystal-clear perspective on what is healthy in one’s life and what is not. “Letting You Go” speaks to the long, drawn out challenge that letting go of an ex can face, and the pain one can encounter along the way. In the end, the message of the song has a positive conclusion, as DeMola finds a way to let go of all that is unhealthy and move on.
“Sitting at the edge of my bed Hole in my chest, and holding my head Trying to blur the lines It’s easier pretending this was all a lie”
“Letting You Go” is a flawless, well-polished piece of music. Every element makes sense, and contributes to the overall themes of the song while pleasing the listener’s ears and souls. Deanna DeMola has proven her ability to create music that allows one to slip into a vibrant world of emotion and self-reflection, with the ‘catchy’ factor necessary to retain the attention of the masses. DeMola is an artist to watch in the future, and “Letting You Go” is a hit single to immediately stream on all platforms.
