California - 'Arrow through Your Heart'
Review by Sylvie Marie & Staff

“Arrow Through Your Heart” is a sentimental addition to California’s repertoire of catchy pop tunes. It embraces a romantic tone that bypasses the typical pop love song cliches and lands at an organic place of true love and respect. In a world of surface-level love songs, this dedication is refreshingly sincere.
“Her love is all in season…”
Much of California’s genuineness can be felt through their lyricism. While the lead singer will “put an arrow through your heart”, just like Cupid, he will also “put the sunshine in your eyes”. This depicts his desire to make his love happy, not just to win her affections. Such a sentiment is rarely expressed so effortlessly.
The lyrical message of “Arrow Through Your Heart” is additionally supported by the buoyant arrangement. An entourage of background vocalists gather around the lead melody, joining in on his dedication and filling in the space between lines. They act as musical wingmen, encouraging California’s lead vocalist in his romanticism through soaring harmonies.
“In the sky of chance, you can find romance…”
Other aspects that bolster this affect are the brief guitar solos that step forward between sections. These short but sweet melodies harness a range of emotions, serving as little glimpses of what ups and downs come with a relationship. Even if they tiptoe along the minor scale, they always end up major, forecasting happiness at the end of the day. Similarly, the drums indicate waves of excitement and anticipation. Hi-hat fills or momentary accelerations of pace drive the song forward, filling listeners with just as much eagerness as California inhabits.
Glistening with genuine admiration, audiences of all ages will enjoy the gleefulness of California’s “Arrow Through Your Heart”.
