What got you into music?
I’ve loved music since I was very little. I started singing around 5 years old and it just kind of stuck. There was never a thought of music not being a part of my life it was just always there as my passion, fun, outlet, way to express my thoughts and such.
What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else?) Tell us why.
I really enjoy all aspects. I really enjoyed the recording process. There’s just so much that goes into the creativity and it is really fun to collaborate ideas and work with others in the business. Songwriting is a favorite when I’m going through something- it’s helpful in expressing feelings without really expressing feelings sometimes. Performing though, is really cool to get people involved and see the excitement and validation when people are enjoying what you are doing. The whole reason we do what we do is to share music with the world.
Can you tell us what being in the recording studio is like for you?
So much fun! To be able to just make music for hours is amazing. For me, when I’m in the studio, it’s almost like the outside world don’t matter. It’s just us doing our thing. Collaborating, sharing ideas, seeing the song grow and become its final mix is just a really cool process to be a part of.
Please take a moment to listen to Ashley's hit song "Medicine"
As a songwriter or musician, are there any obstacles you have had to overcome or obstacles that you are facing right now in your career?
There’s obstacles with anything and I just take things one day at a time while still keeping my main goals in mind and not out of sight. There’s so many artists out there trying to make a name for themselves and because of that, it’s a learning experience finding your way. Once I see something I want I’m quick to chase after it (usually) and in the music industry trying to be patient in the process of letting good things unravel is a struggle for me. My mind is constantly running with ideas, how can I do this or how can I achieve that, so my mind never sleeps haha.
Who do you admire most in the music scene today and why?
There are quite a few artists I admire. To just name a few, Miranda Lambert, LeAnn Rimes, Carol King, and Jo Dee Messina. They’ve all inspired the artist I’ve become in ways from their style, heart in performance, hard work to reach their achievements, and how they shaped the industry in different ways.
To date, what do you think your best song is? Can you describe the song for us?
Well, this is always a tough question for me to answer because my heart is in every song in some way, big or small. On the album, I think it would be “Never Say Never” or “Weightless”. They are both just so beautifully written from lyrics to melody and the mixes are perfect to me. My favorite to date that I’ve written is probably one I’m still putting some final touches on called “Tequila, Why aren’t you listening?”... basically a straight country tune about having a drink alone, looking for answers hoping to clear your mind, but it seems talking to the glass isn’t helping like you thought it would.
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?
Always working on new stuff! 2020 is focused on this debut album most definitely though! Play some shows, gaining friends and fans, really just trying to make a name for myself and finding fans that love what I do and want to support me and have fun on the journey with me!
