Artie Tobia - 'It's Christmas Time'

Review Written by Daniel Hoyt & Staff

“It’s Christmas Time” feels at first like it might be a country song because of the acoustic vibe that it has going for it; however, it becomes so much more as the piece continues. It is clear right off the bat that the song is relaxed because you can hear someone in the background yell “how’s that tempo?” It has that 90's feel to it like at the end of “What I Got” by Sublime where you can hear the band interacting which is very cool. This song has multi-genre appeal. The vocals are definitely more rock than country, almost reminiscent of Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. At points in the song you can hear elves working on toys and voices in the background going “Ho Ho Ho” like Santa. It’s a fun and engaging Christmas song that reminds us what the season is all about. The hook/chorus of the song is extremely strong and easy to sing along to. The song features Artie Tobia on lead vocals and guitar, Mark Bridgman on bass and vocals, and Stuart Stahr on drums. The musicians are great and, even though they are having a blast, they play in a perfect beat. They don’t go astray in this tune, and many people will find pleasure in the strong musicianship that this song has to offer.

The lyrics of this piece take a bit more of a fun approach, which resonates with the relaxed, yet upbeat vibe. The refreshing message is just to enjoy Christmas. Lyrics such as, “it’s Christmas time, how ‘bout a holiday cheer,” show that this songs' aim is to create joy during the holiday season. Lines also sometimes serve to introduce a cool theatrical idea like, “the elves are in the workshop/making lots of noise/whistling and singing/while they’re making toys.” This line is followed by sounds of elves making toys, which once again shows the fun side of the holiday season. Artie does a brilliant job at bringing a Christmas to life with vivid lyrics.

"It's Christmas Time" is a feel-good tune that has the ability to be a Christmas classic with real life lyrics, a chorus that everyone can sing along to, and a contagious, fun vibe.

About Artie Tobia

Artie Tobia has a career twenty plus years in the making. He is a storyteller with a voice that easily and comfortably navigates musical styles. Tobia blends elements of blues, rock, folk, and country to inventively create his own brand of roots rock, known as blue jeans rock. Amidst a tireless performance schedule that has averaged 200 nights a year for past 22 years across a variety of venues, Tobia has released five albums, the most recent one having been released in summer 2018.

Since he began writing his own songs, Tobia has connected to fans with original music that honors the artists who influenced him. His catalog of over 100 songs offers something for everyone. According to Roberty Barry Francos in The Quiet Corner’s Best of 2008 article which references Tobia’s second album Still In The Way, Tobia “would easily be sharing a stage with all those British and West Coast bands.”

“My writing took a turn on Chase The Sun.” says Tobia. “I really worked on my craft and continue to do so to this day. The semi auto-biographical tale of the Vagabond told over thirteen musical chapters took a lot to pull together. It also elevated my writing moving forward” he continued.

New confidence and continued work on his craft paid off as Tobia released Aberdeen, which received a strong reception from fans, critics and the radio world. Aberdeen reached #13 on the AAA/AMA APD chart, debuted at #15 on the F.AR. chart, and also made it onto the Alternate Root 66 Chart. These national radio charts as well as other acknowledgments have opened a lot of doors and opportunities for Tobia. Tobia's fifth CD, Driven, looks to capitalize on the foundation and success of all four previous records and perhaps gain him some of the industry recognition he seems to be driving toward.
