Ahmad McCown - "My Destination"
Review by Brandon Watts

Ahmed McCown’s “My Destination” is a message to all of his haters. The song opens up with a bright piano progression accompanied by syncopated rhythms on a shaker. Ahmad then jumps into the first chorus with a classic “doubled vocals” sound. His words are beaming with positivity giving you the motivation to chase after your goals.
“In your face, the joke’s on you /‘Cause you didn’t think I’d make it through /Here I stand I’m not gonna stop”
As the first chorus progresses, the instrumentation begins to evolve with fleshed-out percussion and deeper bass notes in the piano that gives the record a stronger tonal balance.
From shutting down haters, a strong emphasis on the drumbeat, and the rhythmic groove of the vocals, “My Destination” has a bit of a hip-hop influence to its sound that gives off similar vibes to “No Diggity.” Ahmad bolsters the track with low harmonies and vocalizes that add a soulful color to the track. Throughout the jam, the instrumentals arrangement continues to entice listeners with additions of short string and reverberant horn motifs.
If you are looking for a self-esteem boost or a message to block out the people that don’t believe you can achieve your dreams, Ahmad’s “My Destination” is sure to send positive vibes your way.

About Ahmad McCown

It all started with a stereo, a keyboard, and a Georgia-born/Delaware-raised boy with a dream. The moment Ahmad was able to quote song lyrics as a toddler, he knew he found a new love; that new love was music. From that special day, Ahmad McCown was listening to the sounds of legends such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Luther Vandross. In addition to being introduced to these talented artists, McCown became heavily influenced by artists in the names of Tevin Campbell, Babyface, Boyz II Men, Musiq Soulchild, Donell Jones, and many others.
As time went by, McCown decided to use his musical gifts by participating in elementary school choirs and high school talent shows. At that young age, Ahmad knew he wanted to take his talent to a new level. When Ahmad was fifteen years old, he got the chance to work on his musical talents when he received a keyboard as a gift from his parents. While attending high school and college, McCown spent the majority of his time writing and composing original songs. He then went on to join the youth band and the worship team at his local church.
With Ahmad having a strong passion for music, his main focus is longevity. McCown is hoping to release material that people will remember years from now. In Ahmad’s eyes, it’s not just about making music. It’s about making memories. Because McCown is just now embarking on his musical journey, he knows he still has a lot to learn. He plans on educating himself by learning from those who have had major success in the world of entertainment. Ahmad truly understands that he has to learn to crawl before he can walk. He hopes one day his journey inspires others to follow their heart and to go pursue whatever it is they have been called to do. McCown believes that God has blessed everyone with a special gift and that He would want us to use that gift or else He wouldn’t have given it to us.
