Love Ghost - 'Mr. Blue'

Love Ghost is an indie-alternative rock band from Los Angeles that could soon be a house-hold name. Consisting of Finnegan Bell (guitar and vocals), Mya Greene (Viola and Keyboard), Ryan Stevens (Bass and background vocals) and Samson Young (drums and background vocals), Love Ghost has been collecting critical acclaim and awards at a level that most band's don't experience. They have won numerous awards including Best Alternative Rock Band from the Hollywood Music in Media Awards and The Jean Luc Goddard Award from Cult Critic Magazine. Their music videos have received awards from the New York Film Awards, LA Shorts Awards, Paris Music Video Underground and many others. In 2019, Love Ghost wrapped up an extensive international tour playing throughout Ireland, Japan, and Ecuador. The band has opened for Buckcherry, Berlin, Ozomatli, The Tubes, Fuel, Smash Mouth, The Young Dubliners and Irish singer/songwriter Mundy.

Of the compilation album, That Summer, Vol. Two, by Various Artists, Love Ghost is featured with their knock-it-out-of the-indie-rock-park music scene song, "Mr. Blue." “Mr. Blue” is an addictive alt-rock song featuring addictive melodies, killer instrumentals, and relatable lyrics. The song opens up with an exchange between bass and viola before explosive drums break in and the motif is matched by crisply distorted electric guitar. The instrumental arrangement alone will get stuck in your head but, if that wasn’t enough, Bell’s vocals bring a sense of nostalgia while he glides through melancholic phrases with a wistful timbre that is sure to strike listeners at their core.

The punchy instrumentals of the verse transition into a more sustained, legato arrangement for the chorus. Bell pours his emotion into his lyrics making it easy for listeners to connect and empathize. “Mr. Blue” tells a story of heartbreak and how it always ends one-sided. In the first verse he sings “You left your heart on the table/ I wasn’t even stable,” revealing his emotional vulnerability before entering the pre-chorus singing, “Memories I couldn’t find, someone’s always left behind, these reasons always rhyme without a dime,” depicting how someone always gets the worse end of the situation. Combining the message with unforgettable melodies, “Mr. Blue,” will have you wanting to listen over and over again.

Love Ghost is the next "it" band. Yes, the music critics are aligned and the awards are pouting in, but it's much more than that - Love Ghost offers stellar musicianship, artistic songwriting and meaningful lyrics all wrapped up in tunes that are interesting and ultra- catchy at the same time.
