Love Ghost - 'Mr. Blue'

The award-winning alternative rock band Love Ghost is on the rise with good reason. They are extraordinary and the world is taking notice. The band just completed a tour of Ireland where they played Whelan’s, Crane Lane and Roisin Dubh (amongst others). In March, they will head out to Japan for a 10-show tour with shows booked in Tokyo and Osaka. Love Ghost has won numerous awards including Best Alternative Rock Band (Hollywood Music in Media Award), Best Music Video (New York Film Awards, LA Shorts Awards, Paris Music Video Underground, NYC Indie Film Awards, Top Shorts, Festigious, London Independent Film Awards and many others. Love Ghost is: Finnegan Bell (guitar and vocals), Mya Greene (viola and keyboard), Ryan Stevens (bass and background vocals) and Samson Young (drums). The band just release a new single “Mr. Blue” which will actually elevate your mood with it's impressive songwriting.

“Mr. Blue” starts with a crisp melodic riff played in a syncopated, conversational manner between bass, viola and percussion. The instruments seem to be talking to one another through short and intense phrases. The opening alone is enough to impress you and grab your ears! Finnegan Bell enters singing, “You left your heart on the table. I wasn’t even stable.” Finnegan’s voice is in the tenor vocal range, completely natural with a clear tone that matches any charting rock sound today. Vocal harmonies are equally good. As “Mr. Blue” goes through the first verse, the mix grows nicely. The chorus has superb melodic content with just the right amount of catchy hook material that will stick in your head for a long time, but the cathcy sound will still please fans of alternative rock. “I say the world is tainted. I bid you all adieu. I am Mr. Blue. I am Mr. Blue.” As the song progresses, Love Ghost cements what makes them so unique and why they are winning so many awards – their song compositions are intelligent and sophisticated, presenting original and unpredictable instrumental arrangements while remaining highly relatable with great vocals and lyrics. The song's lyrics were written by Finnegan.

“Mr. Blue” is so well composed, you wonder if these alternative rockers had some classical training. Love Ghost knows how to take a musical risk; they dive into interesting harmonic and melodic structures creating vivid sections that jam out, bursting in alternative substance, but never for too long. "Mr. Blue" explores depression in the context of complex relationships and society, but the song never feels gloomy. Instead, the band opts to musically paint the intensity of the emotion.

Love Ghost is on track to be the next big festival band in the U.S. They have an exciting and engaging sound that appeals to the masses, but is still so full of substance that the respect and enthusiasm for their music will surely continue to grow and keep them on the road to success - this is a band to watch in 2019.
